New Ribbon Support Portal Login Procedure
Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA)
Salesforce utilizes Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) to bolster security by requiring users to provide two (or more) verification methods during login.
How it works?
Factors involved:
- Something the User Knows: This is typically the username and password combination.
- Something the User Has: This signifies a verification method in the user's possession, such as:
- Salesforce Authenticator App: A mobile app that generates time-based one-time passcodes (OTP) for login approval.
- Security Key: A physical device that validates login attempts through a button press or generated code.
- SMS Verification: A one-time passcode delivered via text message to the user's registered mobile number.
Benefits of MFA in Salesforce:
- Enhanced security: Adds an extra layer of defense against unauthorized access, especially if a password is compromised.
- User control: Users can select their preferred verification method based on convenience and security needs.
- Regulatory compliance: MFA can aid in adhering to data security regulations.
Login Process with MFA:
- The user enters their username and password on the Salesforce login page.
- Salesforce prompts for a second factor verification.
- Depending on the chosen method:
- Salesforce Authenticator App: The user opens the app and approves the login attempt after reviewing the details.
- Security Key: The user presses a button on the device to verify.
- SMS Verification: The user enters the one-time passcode received via text message.
Instructions of MFA
- Using Web browser
- Salesforce prompts for second factor verification.
The site will ask you to send a verification code to your preselected device. You can use any of the verification methods such as the Salesforce Authenticator App, Security Key, or SMS Verification, at your convenience. In this example, an SMS text message will be sent to a mobile device for verification. You will need to push the button that says “Send code” to initiate this. You will then enter the 6-digit code that is sent in the “Enter Code” box.
- Click on “Verify” to submit the code for processing. You will be logged into the Support Portal once the verification is successful.
